Does PRP Treatment Improve Healing & Skin?

Introduction

Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment is also known as PRP treatment. It is a procedure to promote healing with the help of platelet-rich plasma injections. Such kinds of treatments are very familiar in the sports field due to athletes using such kinds of treatments to heal injuries with the help of PRP treatment. PRP treatment does not only help with injuries but also provides other health and beauty-related benefits. Now the question arises, does the prp treatment effective? How does it work? And does it have any side effects? Let's know how it works from the following plot now.

The Working Process of PRP Treatment

Plasma is an element of the blood that contains special proteins which promote cell growth. Medical researchers have created the PRP by isolating the plasma from the blood and concentrating it.

In this treatment, the injecting PRP is into the damaged tissue. After that, the body will stimulate with the platelet-rich plasma and instruct the damaged cell to grow or heal. Still, the PRP treatment is also not approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA). However, the prp treatment works very well on most patients. But still, the trials of the treatment are going on.

Purpose of PRP Treatment

The medical researcher is implementing PRP treatment on several patients with different types of injuries and conditions, including:

Tendon Injuries: Tendon is a very tough and thick kind of band of tissue that connects the muscle to the bone. However, they are naturally slow healers after the injury. Doctors tried to use PRP treatment to increase the injured tendon's healing time, such as tennis elbow, jumper knee, and Achilles tendonitis in the ankle.

Hair Loss: The doctor also injected PRP injections into the scalp to enhance hair growth and prevent hair loss and damage. As per the research in 2014, the prp treatment is very effective in treating a special kind of alopecia which is androgenic alopecia, well known as male pattern baldness.

Osteoarthritis: The PRP treatment is also applied to osteoarthritis patients. In 2015 research, the result found that PRP treatment was more effective than hyaluronic acid injections (a basic therapy) for promoting the healing of osteoarthritis. But this research trial was on a small group of patients. Hence larger trials are required to prove this fact.

Facial Rejuvenation: In a study in 2021, the prp treatment was applied to 30 females in two sessions with 3 months of intervals. After the three-month treatment, the results are compared with pre- and post-treatment test results. The test results show clearly that it is a promising technique with amazing results observed in reducing dark circles and wrinkles.

PRP Treatment for Skin

Most beauty experts use two types of procedures for PRP facial treatment. The first type is called the micro-needling with PRP, in which a pen-like device with many tiny needles is used to puncture the skin and stimulate collagen production. The second type of PRP facial treatment is called the Vampire Facial, in which the patient's blood is drawn and then injected back into their face.

In one procedure, the plasma is spread all over the face, and then the help of a micro-needling process across the forehead and cheeks helps the face to absorb the proteins from the plasma. Then the protein heals the skin.

The second procedure is also known as the vampire facial. The plasma is directly injected into the skin like the fillers. And then, the plasma heals the skin from beneath and from the top. However, there is very little research concluding that vampire facials are effective.

The Benefits of PRP Treatment

Plasma-rich platelet is autologous, which means it completely contains substances that come from the patient's own body. That prevents lots of allergic reactions. However, there are other benefits of the prp treatment:

  • Provide Rejuvenation
  • Heal difficult-reach areas
  • Natural cosmetic treatment
  • It's safe
  • Results are long-lasting

Conclusion

According to the studies, Plasma-rich platelets are effective in various injuries and improving skin health by promoting the healing ability of a particular body part. However, most of the research is undertrial. And such kind of treatment also not comes under any medical insurance due to no approval from the FDA. Hence make sure before having the prp treatment consult with a physician.
